About Me

IRINA OBRAZTSOVA

THOUGHTFUL DESIGN BEGINS WITH INTELLIGENT PLANNING

My name is Irina Obraztsova, and I have more than 30 years of experience in interior and furniture design. Since 2020, I have also been working in residential architectural design after completing professional training in Architectural Design.

Seeing and understanding the environment comes naturally to me. I tend to look at a space as a whole — its proportions, light, materials, colors, furniture, and, most importantly, the way people will live in it.

In my projects, I enjoy combining modern and traditional elements, natural materials, warm textures, and calm, balanced colors. If I had to define my design philosophy in one word, it would be Hygge — the ability to create an atmosphere of comfort, calm, and happiness.

I love spaces that are beautiful and functional, but never feel like a museum. A home should feel lived in, personal, and comfortable. It should support everyday life rather than simply look good in photographs.

MY APPROACH TO DESIGN  🔽

I believe that great interiors begin with intelligent planning — not decoration. Before choosing finishes or furniture, I think about how the space will function, how people will move through it, what they need to store, where they will gather, and how the different elements will work together.

Throughout my career, I have worked on private homes and apartments, commercial and office interiors, renovations, kitchens, bathrooms, and custom furniture. I have designed furniture both for existing interiors and as an integral part of my own design projects.

3D visualization is an important part of my design process. It allows clients to see their future space before construction begins, compare different solutions, understand proportions and materials, and make confident decisions before committing to them.

A CLIENT-CENTERED PROCESS  🔽

I believe exceptional design starts with understanding the people who will live in the space. I take the time to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and understand each client’s lifestyle, priorities, and goals.

Throughout the project, I guide clients through design decisions with clear communication, realistic visualizations, and practical recommendations. My goal is to make the process organized, collaborative, and enjoyable while creating a space that genuinely reflects the people who live there.

a Few More Things About Me  🔽

I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, a city with a rich architectural and cultural heritage. Several generations of my family have worked in creative professions, so I grew up surrounded by art, architecture, and design. This environment strongly influenced the way I see the world and shaped my natural sense of aesthetics.

My great-grandfather was a Russian sculptor who lived and worked in New York for more than 20 years. I find this connection especially meaningful because, many years later, I found myself building my own professional life in the United States.

Much of my professional knowledge has come through hands-on experience, continuous self-education, and the habit of always looking for ways to learn and grow. Over the years, I have also worked in graphic design, print design, and web design. These experiences have given me a broader perspective and allow me to approach design projects from different angles.

For 20 years, I ran my own design company in Moscow. This experience taught me not only how to design, but also how to take responsibility for decisions, communicate with clients, manage projects, solve unexpected problems, and see a project through from an initial idea to a finished result.

I am not afraid of challenging projects. In fact, I often find them the most interesting — especially when I believe in the idea and see the potential to make it work.
I believe that good design requires both creativity and responsibility. And I bring both to every project I take on.

One of the most valuable parts of my process is helping clients visualize their future space before construction or renovation begins. Through detailed 3D models and realistic visualizations, clients can confidently evaluate design decisions, explore options, and move forward with a clear understanding of the final result.

It doesn't matter where my clients live. I often work remotely with homeowners, designers, architects, builders, and suppliers, offering well-thought-out design solutions and visual tools that contribute to the successful completion of a project.

My design philosophy is inspired by natural materials, balanced proportions, warm textures, and interiors that feel authentic rather than temporary. I believe that a well-designed home should not only look beautiful — it should make everyday life more comfortable, organized, and enjoyable.

Every client has a unique story, lifestyle, and vision. My goal is to create a space that reflects those qualities and feels truly personal for the people who call it home.

Spa-Inspired Bathroom

The bedroom and bathroom are the first and last spaces we experience each day. Their atmosphere quietly shapes our mood, well-being, and the rhythm of everyday life. This renovation was designed to transform an ordinary bathroom into a private spa retreat, where comfort, beauty, and functionality exist in perfect harmony.
The layout was completely reimagined by combining the shower and bathtub into one spacious wet room, creating a seamless flow while maximizing both comfort and functionality. Frameless glass partitions subtly define each area without interrupting the flow of natural light, preserving an open, airy atmosphere throughout the space.
Carefully selected natural materials, custom-designed cabinetry, and layered lighting work together to create an interior that is not only visually refined but also thoughtfully designed to support different moods throughout the day. Whether energizing the morning routine or creating a calming atmosphere in the evening, every detail contributes to a space that restores a sense of balance, comfort, and well-being.

English Classroom (Sacramento, CA)

Architectural design - Barnhaus 1

Graphic design and print production:

When I came to the United States, I went to study English at Highlands School. I was very lucky to have such a wonderful teacher. When I finished my studies, I wanted to give him a special gift. Since he loves to cook, I came up with the idea of creating a cookbook for my teacher, filled with recipes and wishes from his students.
Thank you to my classmates, who were happy to support me in this project.
